Emotionally Focused Therapy is based on how we as human beings evolved. Humans, in our deepest recesses, evolved in coordinated connection to other humans. We have sophisticated mirror neurons and other sensory apparatus that have us intricately wired and aware of our primary need for one another to survive. It is not hyperbole to suggest that connection to others is our primary existential need from birth on.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) involves helping people heal by listening inside themselves in a new way to different ‘parts’ - feelings or thoughts - and, in the process, unburdening themselves of extreme beliefs, emotions, sensations, and urges that constrain their lives. As they unburden, people have more access to Self, our most precious human resource, and are better able to lead their lives from that centered, confident, compassionate place.
Hand in Hand
Hand in Hand is far and away the very best of parenting support to build loving, connected and resilient families and children while providing support, understanding and resources for parents. I am practical by nature and seek out real solutions with solid results. Hand in Hand is one of those great resources.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma.
A newly developed integrative approach combines several modalities including "one-eye movement therapy" (OEI) with EFT, EMDR, IFS and a number of others to better work with trauma and distress.
