healing and wholeness through compassion, science and effective therapies

Elene Johas Teener

Good day everyone,

I am glad you are here

In this increasingly complex world the bravest act is reaching for support when we need it. On my site I hope you will get to know me and also a little bit about what I know about health and healing and human development from the many years I have studied, experienced and practiced psychotherapy and been on my own path. We have come, and I say this without hyperbole, extraordinarily far in the years I have practiced this work. In the early days we might have known we were seeing and experiencing change and growth, but we didn’t have much research or science, or long term experience to count on. Now we know, with out a doubt, through the research of Dr. Sue Johnson, and Dr. John Gottman, with credit to the originator, John Bowlby, that humans survived through connection in our earliest brain wiring. We absolutely need each other and without connection exhibit the signs of fight, flight, and freeze/flop. EFT (Emotionally Focussed Therapy) has its foundations in this research.

(Are you concerned about the divorce rate? Did you know that EFT is astoundingly successful at allowing couples to stay connected?)

We also know through EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and the newer OEI (Observed & Experiential Integration) how our brains store traumatic experiences and also how to process these experiences.

Through IFS (Internal Family Systems) (giving credit again to earlier ego state therapies; Transactional Analysis and Psychosynthesis) we know that our brains and psyche are multifaceted and we have differing ego states which help us to work with targeted hurts and traumas, but also to build authentic sense of present day self.

Through somatic therapies, and in my training as a bioenergetic practitioner, from the school of Reichian therapy, and the current work with somatic experiencing, we can see how emotional experiences also show up in our bodies and how to release them. I am currently working with a type of therapy called TRIP (Trauma Regulation and Integration Process, which combines the above modalities to provide a supportive and integrated experience of profound change and healing.

Supervision

I provide supervision for therapists interested in learning new modalities or getting certificated in EFT. There is more information on my Supervision page.

Workshops

Hold Me Tight

I hold Hold Me Tight® workshops in various locations: the next one will take place on February 7-11, 2024, at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico. More details are available below and in the Workshops page. I have previously held workshops there and in Santa Cruz, California. Contact me if you are interested in future workshops.

Emotional stress is a major cause of physical illness, from cancer to autoimmune conditions and many other chronic diseases. The brain and body systems that process emotions are intimately connected with the hormonal apparatus, the nervous system, and in particular the immune system.
